Dogs are sufficiently individual that is label them is to make a great mistake as to label humans since doing so damages the relationship, beginning in our minds. Still with that qualification in mind an appreciation of dog breeds can be useful indication of the likely behavior of dogs since human beings have often selected for certain behavioral characteristics.
We have never been able to work exactly what Sasha's breed might be, except that I would classify her as a water dog. This week, we again had heavy rain and thunder storms, and the result is that Sasha has been in her element. So I have given her more time off the lead, and allowed her to romp through the swollen creek. Normally, I deliberately steer clear of waterways to avoid tics. Sash and I picked up a few leeches, but given the weather conditions that is an occupational hazard.
On the other hand, I never let Dexter off, to minimize the risk he may present. He does appear to mind that Sasha is romping ahead. I try to respect his dog nature, and I recognize he means well, but as perhaps with all dogs, but especially Dexter when the stimuli present, he goes into action mood. My problem is to try to discern what the cues might be - and at this point we are operating on different wavelengths.
Conditions under foot, at least for me, are not the best but we follow the usual path.
For a change, we detour to the flooded creek.
Sasha enjoys her element.
Wading across the creek.
Stopping for a drink.
No inhibitions.
Having a good time.
Anchors away.
It occurs to me that it is weather for ducks, so we should go up and check them out.
Meantime we will present ourselves at the quarterdeck to board Friday Ark at Modulator.
